"Pitch Dark" is from the group CHON, a San Diego-based band that formed in 2008. Featuring guitarists Mario Camarena and Erick Hansel, bassist Esiah Camarena and drummer Nathan Camarena, the progressive rock group has released three full-length recordings: Grow (2015), Homey (2017) and most recently their self-titled effort CHON (2019), all on Sumerian Records.
Fascinating and complex compositions are a hallmark of this instrumental band. Guitarist Mario Camarena explains the band's approach: "We really wanted to make songs with more simplistic structures, but also the craziest parts we’ve ever had musically. I think our music is already so weird that when the structure is also crazy, it can be hard to follow." On their most recent recording, he says "I really wanted this album to appeal to people who maybe don’t listen to this style of music."
